We live at the end of a new epoch — the few remaining survivors of the defining war of the 20th century are quickly passing into eternity. Within a few years, they will all be gone. Even today, only a few have the strength to return to the battlefields of their youth and to speak into the lives of the present generation. When they die, they take with them their stories, their lessons, their examples and the last living connection with a generation that still cherished many of the values of Christian civilization.

A Final Farewell

For one special moment in time, the anniversary of D-Day, veterans and the families of veterans from England, France, America and all across the world gathered on the beaches of Normandy to remember. There the men of the Second World War remembered the battles of their youth. For one last time, they looked out on the sands of what is arguably the greatest amphibious invasion in recorded history — D-Day in Normandy, June 6, 1944. And we went there to celebrate, to remember, to honor and to record.

Vision Forum Ministries concluded our ten-year Faith of Our Fathers Project with a Final Farewell from the beaches of Normandy as part of the 2011 D-Day anniversary celebration. We were there to give a last goodbye — a great celebration designed to honor the soldiers of the Second World War, to link the generations of the present with the men of the past, to celebrate the providence of God through these men in securing freedom, and to share a Gospel message of hope to the veterans and their families.

Many of the last living survivors of the greatest amphibious invasion history returned to Normandy for the final time.
